Cheek Augmentation Question:
Injectable dermal fillers vs cheek implants for cheek augmentation.
I would like more definition of my cheeks without making my face wider (increasing the projection of my cheeks to the front but not the sides). I would prefer fillers but I’ve seen women that look like pillows, swollen and very artificial. I want more of a chiseled look with highlighted difference between the lower vs the upper/middle cheek. Can this be achieved with fillers, or are implants something that would be more in line if this is a concern?
I have performed many Cheek Augmentations using both Cheek Implants and fillers. For fillers, I prefer using Perlane. From the photos, using a filler alone can shape the cheeks but this doesn’t just happen. The MD using the filler must understand the proper aesthetic shape of a female cheek and how, where and in what amount the filler should be used to accomplish that shape. When you see people with puffed up, swollen faces after fillers, this aesthetic shape wasn’t created with the filler.
You might want to try the Perlane first. If you’re happy it’s a quick, easy office procedure that would allow you to look good that night. If after 1 or 2 times, you would like a more permanent solution, you are a candidate for Cheek Implants but the same aesthetic principles must be followed. You would also require some slight removal of excess fatty tissue along the nasolabial folds and below the cheek area to further shape the cheeks. This is performed at the same time as the cheek implants.
The cheek implants are placed through an incision inside of the mouth and I do not need to suture or screw the cheek implants in however, you would need to sleep on a U-shaped pillow (avoids pressure on the cheeks) for 1 month following the cheek implant surgery. Our Perlane patients fly home the same day, while the Cheek Implant patients fly home 1 week following the Cheek Implant Surgery to anywhere in the world.
